HOW TO DECORATE HOME WITH SHAGS AREA RUGS

Shag Rugs were popular in the 1960s and 1970s. The highly textured coverings are making a reappearance decades after they were first introduced. If you purchased a shag carpet and are unsure of how to make the most of it, or whether you inherited one, you do not have to go back in time. If you want to create a stunning, sophisticated-looking contemporary area, there are plenty of additional solutions available.

1. Decide on a color palette for your project.

Add plenty of various colors of brown together to create a chocolate color scheme, then add splashes of cream and white to soften the appearance and a dash of black to help it stand out more. Browns and greens, as well as a gentle sky blue, may be used to create a natural-inspired ambiance. Deep oranges and reds should be used to create a fall-inspired atmosphere.

2. Mix and combine a variety of finishes and textures for a unique look.

The rich and sumptuous quality of a shabby chic carpet should be complemented with various tactile textures such as satin and velvet on cushions and blankets, as well as cordon floor coverings. Introduce a variety of finishes, such as highly polished woodwork, satin and gloss paint, and other reflecting elements, such as mirrors and glass, to give the room a distinctive look.

Reflective surfaces may make a space seem more expansive, which is especially beneficial when used with a brown carpet since the dark tone can absorb light and make the area appear gloomy or narrow.

3. Paint the walls with a satin finish to give them a luxurious appearance.

If you have woodwork such as baseboards and picture rails, use white gloss to give it a clean, bright appearance. Leave the wood natural, but use an untainted gloss to give a glossy finish if you like a more natural appearance.

4. Finish the look by adding complementing accessories to complete the ensemble.

For example, if you choose a chocolate color scheme, you could include a chocolate-shaped candle or a vintage chocolate tin sign; a nature- or animal-themed print for a nature-inspired room, a bowl filled with pine cones as a centerpiece for a fall-inspired room; or sleek, black tabletop accessories and black and white prints for a modern vibe, etc.
